Katie Doshier
Los Gatan Katie Warkentin Doshier died May 3 at the age of 73.
Doshier was born March 2, 1926, in the village of Friedensrue in the province of Tawrin in Russia. Doshier, the third of what would eventually become nine children, emigrated to Alberta, Canada, while still a baby.
In 1948, Doshier married Joseph, her husband of 50 years. She worked in a cannery, in an electronics company and as a machinist, then devoted herself to her five children. The family moved to the Los Gatos hills in 1958. After their home was destroyed by the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, the couple, together with family and friends, built a beautiful new home.
An active member of Calvary Church in Los Gatos, Doshier was also a 45-pint blood donor to the American Red Cross. She loved camping, fishing, shopping at and holding garage sales and baking cookies, especially her famous Eskimo Cookies and Buffalo Chips. "It's hard to remember when she did not have a smile on her face and an optimistic attitude," her family recalls.
Survivors include husband Joseph Doshier of Los Gatos; children Josette, Collene, Patricia, Merridy and Randy; grandchildren Shellyne, Brian, Erich, Katie, Tyler, Allana, Thomas, Rachelle, Traves, Benjamin, Alicia and Anthony; and three great-grandchildren.
