Town budget wins national award
Another year, another award.
Town finance director Michelle Braucht, who's been recognized for her aptitude with numbers by the California Society of Municipal Finance Officers for the last four years in a row, has now earned national recognition.
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada gave Braucht's budget the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the 1998-99 fiscal year--something that only goes to the top 2 percent of applicants.
"It's a tough one to get," Braucht says. "These are from the real hotshots."
The award recognizes budget documents that are easy to read for politicians, staff and residents and that function as a policy document, operations guide, financial plan and communication device.
Commission OKs retail building
Planning commissioners approved a new 4,200-square-foot retail building at the intersection of Los Gatos-Almaden Road and Union Avenue June 9. The new building will go up in the parking lot of the existing shopping center, in front of the Safeway.
In April, commissioners asked for a modified design, including a smaller tower, smaller building, improved landscaping and pedestrian access, and a more appealing design of the side of the building facing the intersection.
Volunteers needed
The town is looking for volunteers to help distribute food from local markets to local sites as part of the town's Food Match Project, which aims to prevent surplus food from going into the dumpster.
