    The Prowler

It's summertime, and the livin' is easy! With the summer solstice less than a week away, the Prowler can't help but pick up on that wild and free feeling that occurs every June--at least among the student body, of which this cat was once a member.

Speaking of weather, Los Gatos' own Byington Winery on Bear Creek Road holds an event on June 25 called, appropriately enough, Hot Summer Nights. $25.95 a pop gets revelers an authentic Jamaican barbecue, two glasses of wine, live music and dancing. Our weather isn't as hot as Jamaica, but this event might be! Call 354-1111, ext. 204 for reservations.

Warm weather is also good for many flowers, among them fuschias. Fans of this fancy flower can check out the annual judged show and plant sale presented by the San Jose branch of the American Fuschia Society. The event takes place June 26-27 during mall hours at Westgate Mall in that strange area where the borders of Saratoga, San Jose and Campbell meet.

Some residents of Cat Town have been itching to learn more about a certain pastime, while others want to share their favorites with others. All are invited to a community workshop June 23 at 7 p.m. at the Los Gatos Neighborhood Center, 208 E. Main St. Come and give the Rec. Department some good ideas for recreational activities, adult education, facility needs and school enrichment programs.

Finally, catch a rising star June 27 at 7 p.m. at Borders Books, Music & Cafe in Old Town, when local high school students recite at a free open-mic poetry night, a monthly event coordinated by LGHS English teacher Doug Garrett. Everyone is welcome to read after the students.
