Los Gatos Rec hosts series of summer sports camps
The Los Gatos-Saratoga Recreation Department will offer a series of sports camps for youngsters this summer.
The sports-camp series will offer instruction in basketball, soccer, softball and tennis, with youngsters in kindergarten through middle school matched in age groups.
Softball camps for girls in grades 3-8 will be held June 21-24 and July 19-22 on the Los Gatos High School softball field under the direction of former Olympian Lisa Mize.
Los Gatos High varsity tennis coach Carol Kane will head the tennis camps to be held throughout June and July on the LG courts.
Veteran high school coaches John Mackey and Rich Prsha will serve as instructors for the basketball camps, with Chris Trevisan and Tom Vischer heading up the soccer camps.

Wildcat Basketball Camp
The annual Los Gatos Wildcat Summer Basketball Camp returns to town this June, under the direction of Gatos varsity basketball coach Jim Marino.
The camp features two sessions for youngsters ages 7-12, June 14-19 (9 a.m.-noon each day) and June 21-25 (1-4 p.m. each day). Players will be grouped by age and ability levels, and the cost is $80 per player.
A session for players ages 13-15 is set for June 14-18 (1-3 p.m. each day), and the cost is $50.
Camps will emphasize fundamentals in shooting, passing, dribbling, defense and team play with daily drills and games, and will conclude with individual competition and gifts and prizes on the final day. Each participant will receive a camp T-shirt.

Catts Football Camp
The first annual Catts Football Camp for boys in the sixth through eighth grades will be held July 19-23, 1:30-4:30 p.m. each day, at Los Gatos High School's Helm Field. Los Gatos varsity football coach Butch Cattolico will serve as camp director.
The cost for the camp, co-sponsored by the Los Gatos Athletic Association, is $100 per player. For more information, call Cattolico at 358-3020 or 354-2730, ext. 274.
Williams Hoop Camp
The annual Sid Williams Basketball Camp returns to Fisher Middle School July 12-16 for players entering grades 5-9.
Camp hours are 1-3:30 p.m. for boys and girls entering grades 5-6 and 4-7 p.m. for boys and girls entering grades 7-9.

Wrestling Camp
The annual Los Gatos Wrestling Camp returns to the small gym at the high school this summer.
Camp sessions include beginners, June 28-July 2, for youngsters ages 7-12; intermediate, July 5-9, for wrestlers in grades 6-9 with some wrestling experience; and advanced, July 12-16, for wrestlers in grades 8-12 with two years of junior high or one year of high school experience.
Camps are limited to 26 wrestlers per session. The cost is $110, and sessions run 1:30-4:30 p.m. daily. For more information, call Scott Downs at 395-8126 or 354-2730, ext. 259.
Basketball Camp
Basketball Basics, a fundamentals basketball camp for boys and girls in grades 5-8, will be held at Westmont High School this summer under the direction of girls basketball coach Jerry Pettit.
Camps are scheduled for June 28-July 9 for boys and July 12-23 for girls. Camp hours are 8 a.m.-noon for players in grades 5-6, and 1-5 p.m. for players in grades 7-8. The cost is $165.

Santa Clara Baseball School
The annual Santa Clara Baseball School returns to the Santa Clara University campus this summer under the direction of Broncos head coach Mike Cummins and assistant coach Lou Lucas.
Camps are open to players ages 9-16 and feature individualized instruction in defense, base running, sliding and hitting. There will be video analysis of each player, and each player will receive a camp T-shirt and be eligible for prizes in camp contests.
Session dates are as follows:
* June 21-15: 9 a.m.-noon, basic fundamentals and hitting; 1-2:30 p.m., pitching only
* July 5-9: 9 a.m.-noon, basic fundamentals and hitting; 1-2:30 p.m., pitching only
* July 19-23: 9-10:15 a.m., hitting only; 10:30-11:45 a.m., hitting only
The cost is $110 for the complete camp, and $60 for the pitching-only or hitting-only camps. For more information, call 554-4680 or 267-3831.
Badminton Summer Camp
International badminton player and coach Rose Lei will host a summer badminton camp at Saratoga High School.
The camp will feature divisions for beginners classes (July 6-9, 8:30-10:30 a.m. or 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.), intermediates (Section 2--July 19-30, 8:30-10:30 a.m.) and advanced (Section 1: June 24-25, 5:30-7:30 p.m.; Section 2: July 19-30, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.). The cost is $80 for the beginners class and $150 for intermediate and advanced.
Lei was an international-level badminton player for the world championship Chinese national team. She has beaten the women's singles world champion in a competition in Denmark. She has coaching experience both in China and in America. She has taught badminton at Colorado State University and in San Francisco and is currently the coach at Saratoga High.

Girls Soccer Camps
Presentation girls soccer coach Mani Hernandez, who has taken the Panthers to the Central Coast Section finals in each of the past two seasons, will host a pair of soccer camps for girls on June 21-25 and June 28-July 3.
