The game is bocce, the winner is charity

It was competition for a cause on June 8, when celebrity and athletic types gathered in Los Gatos for the second annual Coach Mariucci Celebrity Bocce Ball Tournament hosted by Campo di Bocce with the Forty-Niners Foundation.

Locally, the big winner was the Teen and Family Counseling Center which will receive a check from the benefit event for $25,000. A total of $110,000 was raised, with much of it going to Forty-Niner Foundation charities. Last year, Community Against Substance Abuse received the local share of the proceeds.

According to Campo di Bocce owner Tom Albanese, the tournament features 16 sponsors, each of whom has a team of three. One or two celebrities join each team.
