    The Prowler

Being a creature clothed in fur and colored a heat-absorbing black to boot, the Prowler has been going a little crazy from the heat of late. No doubt many readers can empathize with this plight and will thus forgive the possible absence of some of this feline's trademark wit and witticisms when writing about upcoming events.

Local senior citizens can beat the heat in an air-conditioned bus, restaurant and theater on July 16, for the Los Gatos Senior Program's field trip to Mountain View to see Theater Works' production of the musical Gypsy. Before the 2 p.m. matinee, participants can enjoy lunch at an Italian restaurant and--time permitting--check out the Japanese Obon Festival on Castro Street. The reservation deadline is June 30; call 408.354.8700 to secure a spot.

Even further north of here is the destination for Los Gatan Rachel Monday's oil and acrylic images of pets, most painted from photos submitted by the pets' humans. The show is titled More Than Happy, which this cat hopes signifies the way pets make their humans feel! A graduate of Los Gatos High School and UC-Santa Barbara, Monday will be exhibiting in Menlo Park's Animal Art Gallery, at 520 Santa Cruz Ave. Call 650.325.5671, or visit www.art2net.net on the Internet for the whole scoop!

Finally, don't miss familiar, pretty watercolor scenes of Los Gatos, Saratoga, Cupertino and other areas that will grace the walls of Gallery Saratoga throughout the month of July. Their creator is member artist Norman Dana Carter. Local art aficionados can meet him and see his works during a reception on July 9, from 1 to 4 p.m. The gallery is at 14531 Big Basin Way, Unit 3.
