St. Luke's will repeat popular series of concerts

    By Shari Kaplan

Along with their long daylight hours, amenable weather and strolling people, summer weekend nights in Los Gatos now have something else going for them--the return of the Sunset Series of concerts held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 20 University Ave.

The first concert is on June 24, at 8 p.m. and features Trio Jubilee, a classical/contemporary music trio with violinist Claudia Bloom, cellist Eun Ock Song and pianist Su Mi Park. The Palo Alto-based group was formed in March 1998 and has performed in many Bay Area concert series.

Bloom holds both a bachelor's and master's degree in music. She was a member of the Ciompi Quartet, in residence at Duke University for eight years, where she was also a full-time faculty member. For two years, she served as co-concertmaster of the Zurich Symphony Orchestra. She plays principal second violin in Opera San Jose and is a member of the San Jose Chamber Orchestra.

A native of South Korea, Song is a graduate of the Hochschule for Musik in Karlsruhe, Germany, and taught music in Bruchsaal and Landau. She did further studies at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and is the principal cellist with the Mission Chamber Orchestra of San Jose. She is also the choir director of San Jose's Korean Full Gospel Mission Church.

Park, also originally from South Korea, started playing the piano at age 5. She later went to Sydney, Australia, where she earned a bachelor's degree in music from the Canberra School of Music. While in Australia, she received the Winifred Burston Memorial Prize for Pianists and was awarded the Pianist of the Year.

She also holds a master's and doctoral degree in piano and chamber music from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y,.

Donations for tickets are $20 per performance for adults and $12 for students and senior citizens. Children 12 and younger are free. Admission includes refreshments in the St. Luke's garden during intermission. A discount is available for tickets on two or more concerts purchased in advance. Tickets are also available from the church office. Baby care will be available in the church nursery. For more information, call 408.395.1541.
