Paintball incident leaves local resident with Sunday cleanup

    By Jason Baker

A weekend vandalism spree in a Los Gatos neighborhood has at least one resident concerned about future incidents.

Shortly before midnight on June 5, about 12 houses on Johnson Avenue were hit by pellets fired from a paintball gun. A neighborhood resident, who asked that she not be identified, said she had just arrived home from the airport and heard the "bam, bam, bam" sound of pellets hitting the outside of her house.

"We ran outside to find bright pink paint all along our house," she said. "Seeing a group of boys running in front of the house, we asked 'Did you do this?' They said no as they continued to run down the street."

Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police responded to the scene and began searching the neighborhood for suspects, she said.

About 15 minutes later as she was cleaning the paint from her house, the woman said a car drove up to the house and slowed down. A group of boys started yelling, "Hey, what'cha doing cleaning up so late, hey what happened," she said. The car then turned around two doors down and came back with the boys continuing to yell.

"I don't know if they were the boys who did it, but it sure makes me wonder," she said. The woman reported the description of the car--a newer model white car--and the license number to police.

While the vandals did no permanent damage to her house, the woman said she spent the entire Sunday following the incident scrubbing paint. "Not only is it frustrating, it makes me wonder what's next," she said. "Will they look for a bigger thrill next time? We moved to Los Gatos because it's peaceful. This makes us wonder if we're living in the right community."
