    The Prowler

'I'm bored!" No, this constantly curious cat is definitely not lacking for things to do, but rather is echoing the plaintive cry parents may already be hearing, now that school is out and summer is under way.

The other day, the Prowler heard some great news worthy of sharing--the circus is coming to town! Okay, so it's not a bigtop, three-ring affair, but it still is pretty cool. Make*A*Circus is a nonprofit outfit that uses acrobatics, acting, clowning and other activities to help children develop self-esteem and social skills. It's coming on June 30, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on the front lawn of Los Gatos High School.

The Make*A*Circus experience is threefold. First, there's a free professional performance by the high-flying, low-voltage Zucchini Family and their zany California cousins, the Avocados, in The Zucchinis Unplugged. There are also free instructional circus workshops for children, followed by another performance in which the youngsters are the stars. The event is sponsored by the Los Gatos-Saratoga Department of Community Education and Recreation. For more info, call 408.354.8700, ext. 228.

For those who can't make the circus due to prior plans, the Wild Bird Center's habitat exploration class offers more lead time. Happening July 18 and 21, at Belgatos Park, the class gives kids a closer look at trees, shrubs, flowers and grasses and teaches kids how important different types of vegetation are to animals for food and shelter. The Prowler can definitely vouch for that!

Class times vary depending upon age groups; fee is $5 per child. Space is limited, so this cat advises calling now. 408.358.9453 has all the info!
