Wedgewood houses finally approved
A two-house development on Wedgewood Avenue finally received approval on June 28, in its fifth appearance before the planning commission.
The two homes presented were each several hundred square feet smaller than previous submissions, and had been altered according to many of the commission's previous architectural requests.
Commissioners overruled neighbors, who argued the proposed driveways were in a dangerous location and the houses were too large.
Other neighbors asked that the commission wait to act on the application while they attempted to purchase the land as a park.
Commissioners added a number of conditions, including the addition of more architectural detail, the lowering of an entry roof and the use of a hand-trowel finish to the stucco home. Commissioner Suzanne Müller was the one "no" vote.
Residents can compost that nasty waste
The county of Santa Clara, in its never-ending quest to reduce the amount of waste hitting county landfills, is offering a Composting Basics workshop on Aug. 19.
With the help of the town of Los Gatos and residents of the Lexington Hills area, citizens can learn how to establish a compost pile from certified master composter volunteers.
The workshop is free, and will run from 10 a.m. to noon at the Loma Prieta Community Center at 23800 Summit Road. Preregistration is required, call 408.299.4147.
