Gertrude Chauvin
Former Los Gatan Gertrude M. Chauvin died May 18 in San Jose. She was 88.
Born July 11, 1907 in Santa Barbara, Chauvin spent many years living in Los Gatos with her late husband L. Glenn Chauvin; theirs was the first house built on La Chiquita Avenue. Chauvin worked at the former Pink Petticoat shop off N. Santa Cruz Avenue.
Survivors include daughters Myrtle Andersen of Redwood City, Glenda Barclay of Fremont and Lynda Chauvin of San Jose; grandchildren Steven, Robert and Jean Marie Andersen, Sheryl Luck, Geb, Michelle, Stan, Becky and GiGi Barclay and Richard and Ryan Lipscomb; eight great-grandchildren; and sisters Mary Elizabeth Fredson and Genevieve Kurtz.

Ann Wright
Los Gatan Ann B. Wright died in her Los Gatos home May 27 at the age of 64.
Born March 22, 1932 in AlbertLea, Minn., Wright moved to Los Gatos in 1955. She worked as both a long distance and information operator for Pacific Telephone for 15 years. A student of Latin in high school, Wright had a gift for languages that came in handy as an operator, according to her husband Jim, who said any time her coworkers had trouble communicating with someone, they would ask her for help.
Wright enjoyed gourmet cooking and gardening and was "a student of nature--she knew every tree and flower!" her husband recalled.
Survivors include husband Jim Wright of Los Gatos; daughters Kathleen A. Wright of Grants Pass, Ore., and Tricia J. Sharp of Orcas Island, Wash.; sons Randolph J. Wright of San Diego, Anthony T. Wright of San Jose and Timothy B. Wright of San Jose; and eight grandchildren.
Memorial services were held at Los Gatos Memorial Park. Donations may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 219 Bean Ave., Los Gatos, 95030.
George Emery
Longtime Los Gatan George J. Emery died May 29 following a brief illness. He was 73.
Emery was born Feb. 22, 1923 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. to Hungarian immigrants. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army's 503rd Parachute Combat Team. He also spent 38 years in management with IBM. Emery and his family settled in Los Gatos in the early 1960s.
Survivors include wife Sylvia Emery of Los Gatos; son Michael Emery of Los Gatos; daughters Lisa Patton of Rocklin, Ellen High of Roseville, Megan Emery of Los Gatos and Jennifer Emery of Los Gatos; and seven grandchildren. Emery was preceded in death by his first wife, Marge.
A memorial Mass was held at St. Mary's Church, where Emery was an active member. Donations may be made to St. Mary's Church, 219 Bean Ave., Los Gatos, 95030.
Harry Bean
Los Gatan Harry A. Bean died June 2 at the age of 91.
A native of Pottsville, Pa., Bean was born June 18, 1904. He got involved in banking as a 16-year-old and stayed in that profession for 47 years. He was first employed by The Miners National Bank, and later the former Fidelity Real Estate Bank in Philadelphia, where he served as assistant vice president. While residing in Pottsville, Bean was active in the Second Presbyterian Church and the local YMCA. After retiring in 1966, Bean moved to Los Gatos, where he lived for the next 25 years.
Survivors include wife Ethel Bean of Los Gatos; daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Dr. William Linder of Monte Sereno; grandchildren Bonnie Cammann of Huntington Beach, Beth Crabtree of Auberry, Brett Linder of Campbell and Betsy Rumer of Troy, Mich.; six great-grandchildren; sister Pearl Dando and niece Suzanne Wyld, both of Pottsville.
Private services have been held.
Lyell Darton
Lyell Darton of Los Gatos died June 8 at the age of 89.
Born July 5, 1906 in Beach, N. Dakota, Darton was a Santa Clara County resident since 1934, with 55 of those years spent in Los Gatos. From 1941 to 1945, Darton served in the U.S. Army, which he left as a sergeant.
A longtime employee of the Standard Oil Company, Darton managed two local Chevron stations--first on N. Santa Cruz Avenue and later on Saratoga Avenue. Upon his 1966 retirement, Darton opened his own station on Winchester Boulevard in Campbell. After 10 years of business, he sold the station to his son.
Survivors include wife Naoma of Los Gatos; son and daughter-in-law Lynn and Jan Darton of Aptos; daughter and son-in-law Diane and Dave Stroncak of El Dorado Hills; grandchildren Matt Darton of Felton, Kristina Darton of Aptos and Hollie and Amie Stroncak of El Dorado Hills.
Memorial services have been held, with interment in the veterans' section of Los Gatos Memorial Park.
