Lexington Basin deal complete
The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District and Peninsula Open Space Trust closed escrow July 15 on the new Bear Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve, ending a nearly 25-year struggle by preservationist groups and government agencies seeking to protect the land from development and keep it in the public domain.
Midpeninsula now owns the lower 260 acres of the property, and POST owns the upper 805 acres.
"Now all we have to do is raise $10 million," said MROSD General Manager Craig Britton.
Midpeninsula will be applying for several state grants to help pay of POST's $10 million loan from the Bay Area Coastal Conservancy, Wildlife Conservation Board, Habitat Conservation Fund and other possible sources.
Just a little too convenient?
The corner of Highway 9 and Massol Avenue probably isn't a great place for a new Chevron station with a convenience store, planning commissioners decided last week.
Voting 3-2, the commission turned down Chevron's request to demolish the existing station and build a 24-hour convenience store and a gas station on the site.
Neighbors said they didn't want the additional traffic that a convenience store would bring to the area, especially if it was open around the clock.
In other action, commissioners also:
* Approved a conditional use permit for Sakamoto Plants at 15567 Camino del Cerro, which has never had a CUP since it was founded 20 years ago.
* Approved a conditional-use permit for a day care center at the Northern California Korean Church at 15344 National Ave.
