William Hammack
Los Gatos resident William Jackson "Bill" Hammack died July 4 at the age of 70.
Born Feb. 27, 1929, in Talladega, Ala., he attended Baylor Preparatory School in Chattanooga, Tenn., followed by undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama.
After completing medical school at the same university, he moved to Denver for an internship at Colorado General Hospital. It was during this time that he met Margie Ann Horn, who later became his wife. He also spent two years serving in the U.S. Navy Reserve.
In 1957, the family moved to the San Jose area, where Hammack completed a three-year residency in obstetrics and gynecology at what is now Valley Medical Center. In 1960, Hammack opened a private practice, which he ran until 1996.
Survivors include wife Margie Ann Hammack of Los Gatos; son Steve Hammack of Los Gatos; daughters Cathy Hammack and Amy Williams of Los Gatos and Tracy Budge of Park City, Utah; grandchildren Emily and Darby; sister Betty Windsor and her three children.

Anna Marie Miller
Former Los Gatos resident and Los Gatos native Anna Marie Miller, who had been living in Boise City, Okla., died June 20 at the age of 43.
Born Jan. 14, 1956, Miller graduated from St. Mary's School and Los Gatos High School. She was last employed as a truck driver. She enjoyed camping and fishing.
Survivors include son Jessup Miller of Boise City, Okla., brothers David Miller of Fremont and Edward Miller of Seattle; sisters Cathy Miller of San Ramon, Barbara Fiorentino of Los Gatos, Mary Vickers of Steamboat Springs, Colo., Betty Scaletta of San Jose and Jeanne Dinno of Cloverdale; three nieces and four nephews; mother Ruth Miller of Clarkdale, Ariz.; father and stepmother Paul and Barbara Miller of La Selva Beach; and grandmother Ann Miller of Oklahoma.
Memorial services have been held. The family is in the process of deciding where donations can be made, perhaps to help support Miller's son.
Joyce Yoneda
Monte Sereno resident Joyce Takako Yoneda died June 22 at the age of 56.
Yoneda was a native of Idaho. She worked as a business manager. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling throughout the world and raising golden retrievers. She was also an avid country & western dancer.
Survivors include husband Dr. Gary Yoneda of Monte Sereno; daughter and future son-in-law Miyeko Yoneda and Pat Kohlmann; brother and sister-in-law Ron and Doris Hamamoto; and sister and brother-in-law Janice and Gregory Morimoto.
Memorial services have been held.
C. Paul Rogers Jr.
C. Paul Rogers Jr. died June 28 in his Los Gatos home. He was 75.
Rogers was born April 2, 1924, in Athens, Greece, of American parents living abroad. During World War II, Rogers served in the European Theater with the 2nd Battalion, 222nd Regiment of the Army's 42nd Infantry Division, which was better known as the Rainbow Division. During his military service, Rogers received a Purple Heart medal as well as two Bronze Stars, one with the oak leaf cluster.
A resident of Los Gatos since 1982, Rogers was the retired president and CEO of Detroit Marine Terminals Inc. of Michigan. Before that, he served as president and CEO of Barclay & Company, an import/export firm in New York City. Locally, he served as manager of the Wimbledon Homeowners' Association
Survivors include wife Margaret Rogers of Los Gatos; sons C. Paul Rogers III of Dallas; Stephen Caldwell Rogers of Springfield, Ore.; Gregory Paul Rogers of Berkeley, Mich.; Scott Clark Rogers of Leonard, Mich.; granddaughters Heather Rogers Heck of Missouri, Jillian Leigh Rogers of Texas and Ruth Elizabeth Rogers of Texas.
Memorial services have been held. At a later date, Rogers will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
Terry Craig
Terry P. Craig died July 7 in his Los Gatos home at the age of 57.
Born Dec. 13, 1941, in Cleveland, Okla., Craig moved to California as a youth. He worked locally as a contractor with Los Gatos Plumbing for 40 years.
Survivors include wife of 30 years Jayne Craig of Los Gatos; daughters Amber Wynkoop of Sunnyvale and Kandi Craig of San Jose; sons Tim Craig of Los Gatos and Todd Craig of San Jose; seven grandchildren; brother Jack Craig of Indonesia and nephew Walter Monk of Corning.
Memorial services have been held.
Rachel Alvernaz
Los Gatos resident Rachel M. Alvernaz died at home July 7 of heart failure. She was 91.
Born Dec. 29, 1907 in Lynn, Wisconsin, Alvernaz settled in Los Gatos in 1923, where she graduated from Los Gatos High School. She married Joseph Alvernaz, after which the couple owned and operated the former Sun Ray Dairy in town. She also served as president of the Los Gatos Elementary School PTA, the Santa Clara County Cattlewomen's Association and the Los Gatos branch of the American War Mothers.
Alvernaz was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Joseph P. Alvernaz, as well as seven sisters and three brothers. Survivors include daughters Beatrice Marchetti and Gloria Hampel; sons Joseph Alvernaz Jr. and Robert Alvernaz; grandchildren Andy, Alan, John, Clayton, Joseph and Lacy Alvernaz; Gina, Mario and Leo Marchetti; Deborah Clark; Rebecca Steele; Patti Turner; Lynda and David McGee; Terri Smith, Carole Anderson and Gina Strong; 31 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; brothers Wiley and Donald Angel; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services have been held, with interment at Los Gatos Memorial Park.
Donations may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation or to a charity of choice.
