Police arrest two men in Saratoga Savings robbery
Two men wanted by Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police for the armed robbery of a Los Gatos bank are behind bars, according to police reports.
Eric Zachary Hicks, 25, of San Jose, turned himself in to authorities three days after being named the prime suspect in the June 22 robbery of Saratoga Savings. Police arrested his alleged accomplice, 18-year-old Feng Yee, at his home on July 9. Police said Yee, also of San Jose, was the driver of a vehicle used in the robbery. Both men were charged with armed robbery and are being held in Santa Clara County Jail pending trial.
Shortly after 2 p.m. on June 22, police responded to Los Gatos Boulevard on a report of the robbery. While police were en route, Hicks allegedly fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
According to police, a driver in the area saw the suspect running from the bank, and suspecting that the subject might be involved in a crime, followed him to Carlton Avenue and Longridge Road. Although the driver lost sight of the man, he did see a car leaving the area, police said. The driver reportedly witnessed the man crouching down in the car's back seat. He than wrote down the license number of the car and reported it to the bank and to police.
A computer check with the Department of Motor Vehicles indicated the car was registered to a house in San Jose. Dispatchers notified the San Jose police of the robbery, and officers responded to the home, there to find the car used by the suspect. Officers detained two male suspects who came out to the car, and notified LG-MS police.
Further investigation led police to name Hicks as the robbery suspect. Police initially did not charge the driver of the vehicle, calling him an unwitting accomplice.
