It was truly a star-studded field.
Doug Cosbie was there, just a few years before he would become the All-Pro tight end for the Super Bowl champion Dallas Cowboys.
Don Schwartz was there, just a few years before he would become a star for the St. Louis Cardinals and New Orleans Saints in the National Football League.
And Millard Hampton was there, just two years before he would win gold and silver medals at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal.
But they were not alone.
Steve Bauer was there, too, just a few years before he would go on to star at linebacker for the University of Washington in the Rose Bowl... and just a few months after graduating from Los Gatos High.
Bauer, and his Los Gatos teammate Gary Lynn, represented Los Gatos well in the first ever Santa Clara County All-Star Football Game played in the summer of 1974.
Los Gatos will be represented well again this summer when the 22nd annual Charlie Wedemeyer All-Star Football Game returns to the Santa Clara Valley.
Los Gatos football stars John Giordano, Neno Manuel and Scott Grover will be on the field for the North squad for the kickoff of the annual all-star game hosted by the Almaden Rotary Club on July 26 at 8 p.m. at San José City College.
Joining the three Cats on the North side of the scrimmage line will be Leigh's Pat Guthrie, Tim Garner and Scott Whiteford.
The six join a talented list of Los Gatos and Leigh all-stars dating back to that first game in 1974.
