Ranger re-assigned to job with town
The Los Gatos ranger who lost his job to budget cuts started a new job with the town last Sunday.
Bruce Baker accepted a post as communications dispatcher for the city, a position that pays 4 percent more than his old job.
Baker's former counterpart, Dave Gray, remains at his post. He now serves as the town's lone ranger.
Council denies appeal on house at 48 Hernandez
The Town Council on July 15 decided to send John and Donna Fox back to the Planning Commission to redesign the house they proposed to build at 48 Hernandez Ave.
Council members said the 4,252-square-foot, two-story house is just too big for the half-acre lot.
After reaching a deadlock on the issue, the Planning Commission forwarded it to the Council by denying the application June 12. Three commissioners who opposed the design said the house was too massive.
The house's size raised complaints among seven neighbors as well.
Candidates eye council seats
Town Council member Linda Lubeck, former Councilmember Egon Jensen and Frank Jones have picked up candidate's papers to run in November for two council seats that are open.
The three will become official candidates when they return their paperwork to the Town Clerk, which all would-be candidates must do by Aug. 9. When they hand in the papers, candidates pay
a $25 filing fee.
The two seats to be contested are now occupied by Lubeck and Patrick O'Laughlin. O'Laughlin said he won't run for re-election because he recently was diagnosed with a neurological disorder that could cause pain and difficulty walking.
If O'Laughlin doesn't file papers by Aug. 9, the clerk will keep the filing period open until 5 p.m. on Aug. 14, as the state election code requires.
