The Prowler
The Prowler knows that unless readers have been living in a cave, they probably know about Music in the Plaza, Los Gatos' free summer evening concerts in the Town Plaza Park. However, this cat bets many readers do not know there's a change in the line-up. On Aug. 8, Board of Directors was scheduled, but due to a conflict in touring plans, they can no longer come to Cat Town. Taking their place is Pacific Standard Time, a funk, R&B and reggae band.
Speaking of change, the Prowler doesn't often hear of museums holding two receptions for an exhibit, but that's just what's happening at Forbes Mill Regional History Museum, at 75 Church St. Its homage to the Beatles--FABulous FANaticism--closes Aug. 15. Due to the exhibit's great public response, the museum invites everyone back from 2 to 4 p.m. that day for a closing reception including music and refreshments.
Celebrating an opening rather than a closing is the Los Gatos Museum of Fine Art and Natural History at 4 Tait Ave. A new exhibit featuring paintings by George Rivera and sculpture by Randall Shiroma opens Aug. 5, with a reception Aug. 8 from 1 to 4 p.m. Rivera is also a writer, instructor, art show juror and director of Santa Clara's Triton Museum. Shiroma is a college art professor, ceramist and award-winning sculptor.
For the next-to-last class in its R.T. Chickadee's Backyard Rangers' Club, Los Gatos' Wild Bird Center holds a birds of prey presentation Aug. 10 from 11 a.m. to noon and again from 1 to 2 p.m. at Belgatos Park. Kids 4 and up can meet a live kestrel and owl, dissect an owl pellet and make bird puppets. Cost is $5 per child. For reservations, call 358-9453.
