HEADS UP!

Who: General Plan Committee

What: Request to Town Council for funding to complete the Los Gatos Boulevard Plan

When: Mon., Aug. 5, at 7:30 p.m. in Town Council Chambers

Background: To complete its work on specific guidelines for Los Gatos Boulevard, the committee needs an environmental study and a traffic-flow analysis. Approximate cost: $10,000. The committee also wants funds for photographs and drawings that would facilitate the public's ability to conceptualize the plans. At press time, a decision had not been made on whether to ask for all these funds or just the ones to complete the environmental study and traffic analysis.

What's at Stake: At press time, the item was on the consent agenda. If it stays there, anyone who wants to address the issue would have to request that it be moved to "other business." Strong community participation in the process led the town to believe there was little disagreement over proposals like the one to make the boulevard "pedestrian friendly." A public hearing in the late spring brought out protests, though. If the item stays on the consent agenda and council approves it, progress toward a final proposal will continue. If the council does not approve, the project will come to a standstill.

Staff Reports: Reports on this specific issue will be available in the Town Council packet, available, for a small fee, no later than Fri., Aug. 2, at 5 p.m. Copies will be available for reading in the library.
