Hutchins takes out papers for council race
Jan Hutchins picked up candidate's papers July 23, expanding the field to four candidates in the November race for two Town Council seats.
Egon Jensen, Frank Jones and incumbent Linda Lubeck made the same move last week. Patrick O'Laughlin said he won't run for re-election to the council and has not filed.
The four prospective campaigners become official candidates when they return the paperwork to the town clerk by Aug. 9, with a $25 filing fee. If O'Laughlin doesn't file by by then, other contenders have until Aug. 14 to file.
Shannon firehouse getting facelift
A remodeling for the 38-year-old Shannon Road Fire Station is under way, the Central Fire District announced July 23.
A larger station office, better handicapped access and separate restrooms and lockers for female firefighters are planned. Outside the station, planter boxes and trellises will add a touch of green.
The work is expected to last until February 1997.

The fair itself comes complete with a carnival with amusement rides, agriculture and livestock exhibits, home arts, gardening and industrial arts exhibits and entertainment. Admission costs $7 for adults 13-59 and $4 for seniors 60 and older or kids 6-12.
