The Prowler
Being something of a procrastinator, the Prowler likes to help others avoid the same fate by announcing cool events well ahead of time. To that end, here are a few things to mull over during the dog days of summer:
On Aug. 14, the Los Gatos Art Association invites artists and art lovers to a free demonstration by Saratoga artist Yoju at 1 p.m. in the community room of the First United Methodist Church of Los Gatos at 19 High School Court.
Yoju will demonstrate Suminagashi, the ancient Japanese marbling technique of her ancestors. Yoju's own style employs both traditional methods and modern materials. The Prowler hears there will also be opportunities to try a little hands-on suminagashi. For more info, call 446-4178.
Speaking of things artistic, Congregation Shir Hadash, at 16555 Shannon Road, is soliciting artists, craftspeople and other creative types for the Fall Festival to be held at the synagogue on Nov. 13 and 14. Talk about a head start! Along with being an arts and crafts fair, the fest also includes entertainment. Artisans get a six-foot booth space and will be listed in the program. Call 379-8432 to find out more.
And now, one late note: happy Friendship Day, which this year was observed on Aug. 1. The Prowler once thought this holiday was nothing but a Hallmark creation, but in passing years has seen and heard it touted in many places--not just on calendars and cards of the aforementioned company! Whatever the case, it's a great excuse to tell friends how much they're appreciated. Remember: to have a friend, be a friend.
