NEWS BRIEFS

New protection for victims of violence

A new Domestic Violence Protective Order Registry will protect victims of violence countywide, the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department announced Aug. 1.

The registry will be a central clearinghouse for protective orders, eliminating the need for victims of abuse to file paperwork in every city of the county. Police will be able to use the registry to enforce restraining orders countywide.

The registry will also provide deputy sheriffs to serve civil protective orders countywide, and probation officers to resolve conflicts related to protective orders.

Street repairs planned

Between Aug. 12 and Aug. 16, workers will tear up and repave two sections of road: Los Gatos Boulevard from Mitchell to Loma Alta avenues and Main Street from Loma Alta to University avenues.

For information about traffic conditions, drivers can call 399-5770 between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. that week.

Mayor plans a second meeting

Mayor Randy Attaway's second meeting to discuss the town's efforts to communicate with residents takes place Aug. 8 at 4:30 p.m. in Room 214 of the Neighborhood Center, 208 E. Main St.

Those who want to comment, but cannot attend the meeting can send a letter to Lee Bowman, planning director, at P.O Box 949, Los Gatos, 95031. Or fax it to 354-8431. Or email it to: LG_Town_Clerk@vval.com

Monte Sereno races

Only one of the six people interested in a Monte Sereno City Council seat is an official candidate so far.

Mayor Nancy Hobbs filed papers July 26, only four days after picking them up. Hobbs and Councilmember Pamela Bancroft both are up for reelection this year.

Four other residents picked up papers: Joel Gambord, Barbara Winckler, Aurthur L. Burns and Lilian A Harman.
