First Methodist gives scholarship

During a special service held June 9 at the First United Methodist Church of Los Gatos, five local young people received scholarships for use toward furthering their education. Funds come from the United Methodist Women and the Ruth/Dick Hunter Trust Account. Emily Herr is a 1994 Los Gatos High School graduate attending Carlton College. Alison Johnson, a 1982 graduate of Los Gatos High and 1986 graduate of UC-Santa Barbara, is now pursuing a degree at the California School of Professional Psychology. 1995 Los Gatos graduate Seth Miller is attending San Jose State University, while 1995 graduate Ryan Terry will be attending the University of Oregon this fall. Brian Toy, a 1996 Los Gatos graduate, will be attending Claremont McKenna College.

Los Gatos BPW gives award

The Los Gatos Business & Professional Women's Association held a dinner recently at the Los Gatos Lodge in honor of Los Gatos High School senior Cory Biardo, who has since graduated. Biardo received the group's Ruth Comfort Mitchell scholarship, presented annually to a deserving senior at the high school.

Margaret Guy recieves fellowship

Prospect High School teacher and Los Gatos resident Margaret Guy was among 118 recent recipients of fellowships from the Council for Basic Education. Based in Washington, D.C., the council supports humanities and liberal-arts study in elementary and secondary schools and annually awards teachers and librarians with National Fellowships for Independent Study in the Humanities. Guy's study topic was "Women in Classical Greece: Myth vs. Reality."
