The Bella Rosa Boutique moves to its new location
By Don Callahan
ON THE MOVE ... Karen Giordano, owner of Bella Rosa, has moved her boutique from its Little Village location to 145 N. Santa Cruz Ave. Giordano started the business last September, importing casual to dressy women's clothes from France and Italy and from designers in New York and Los Angeles. According to Giordano, "Business has been good and I want to expand into the women's shoe market, so these new quarters will be a good fit."
TO THE BOULEVARD ... Pro Signs Inc., owned by Bob Deschamps, has moved from 420 N. Santa Cruz Ave. to the Boulevard at 15330, in the same building as Bob Allen's Los Gatos Ace Hardware. Deschamps is continuing to create and produce signs of all sizes and shapes using wood, metal and plastic ... you name it. New telephone number, 358-1218.
NEW IN TOWN ... Tom Teifer Women's Wear just opened at 210 N. Santa Cruz Ave., telephone 395-1019. Maintaining his store in Capitola, Teifer has come over the hill to satisfy his clients' needs on a year-round basis. Per Tom, "As winter approaches, fewer people head for the beach, and consequently business slows down. Los Gatos is a 'happening' town, and clients north of here prefer the shorter drive." Going to market in New York every month or two, Tom specializes in designer-inspired women's custom wear. He adds, "We will outfit our clients from head to toe, from shoes to jewelry." As a side note, there is a Tom Teifer store in Seattle, owned and operated by an ex-partner who has the privilege of using the name. No current connection to our Tom.
RETIREMENT ... Three locations and 36 years after cutting his first head of hair, Len Provenza has decided he has been on his feet long enough. Starting out on his own, Provenza spent 31/2 years at 12 N. Santa Cruz Ave. The next 15 years were at the corner of Bean and N. Santa Cruz Ave. using a side entrance of the building now occupied by the Virtual Gallery. Winding up at 114 Royce St., Len finished out his 36 years and sold his business to Marie Ceciliani. Having worked with Len, Ceciliani will maintain the shop at the Royce Street location.
ON THE BOULEVARD ... Attorneys David J. Bicknell and Jonathan J. Sweet have formed a partnership to offer professional legal services to the construction and real estate industries. Bicknell has practiced in the Santa Clara Valley since 1979, and Sweet in the Bay Area since 1986. Their offices are at 15951 Los Gatos Blvd., Suite 1A, telephone 358-4900.
SON OF BERT ... Mark P. Millen, attorney-at-law, has opened his practice at 2 N. Santa Cruz Ave., Suite 205, telephone 399-9707. Millen will specialize in personal injury and wrongful death litigation. Having graduated from Bellarmine College Preparatory, Mark received his undergraduate and law degrees from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash. Upon graduation, Mark and another lawyer began a law practice in Alaska. After about three years he decided to leave Alaska and took a seven-month tour to various parts of the world, finally settling back in Los Gatos. Millen's dad, Bert, owned the IDEA furniture store for some 30 years at 301 N. Santa Cruz Ave.
CPA'S TURN ... Jeffrey Froshman and Sheri Billings have maintained their CPA practice at 16615 Lark Ave., Suite 102, for 12 years. Jim Williams and Vern Todd have maintained their CPA practice at 2001 Gateway Place for more than 20 years. The two firms have now merged their practices and are known as Froshman, Billings, Williams, Chan & Lewandowski, Certified Public Accountants, Inc., and will specialize in accounting services for small to medium-sized businesses. They will maintain the Lark Avenue address. Telephone 358-8181.
THE REAL WORLD ... Sandy Paulson Moore, Los Gatos High School grad and president of the Alumni Association, has been tutoring high school kids since 1979 under her corporate name, The Tutoring Company, currently housed in an office at the corner of University Avenue and Los Gatos/Saratoga Road. Testing and evaluation, core curriculum preparation, study skills and SAT/ACT test preparedness are just a few of the areas in which Moore has helped students over the past 20 years. Sam Moore, Sandy's husband, has been in the sports arena for 32 years and played professional football for the old San Jose Apaches team, coached by Bill Walsh, as well as for a Canadian team. Moore has coached a pro football team in Germany and was head coach at Gavilan College in Gilroy for two years. Combining the backgrounds of these two resulted in the creation of a new enterprise called The Real World. Boys and girls from 10 to 18 who enroll will get mentoring in academic and athletic skills. Academic mentoring will still be primary in this new venture. The athletic program will consist of a battery of physical tests, based on age and gender, which will be evaluated for use in complete strength and conditioning programs, weight training and plyometrics, sprint and form running, stretching and flexibility exercises. Sport instructional camps will be available for baseball, basketball, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and water polo. Combining the academic and the athletic, there will be monthly character-building seminars. For further information, call 395-7640 or 354-1512.
Don't forget the Sidewalk sale weekend coming up ... August 28-29.
