    Sher will hold town meeting

State Sen. Byron Sher has something up his sleeve.

Anyone who's curious can stop by the senator's next town hall meeting, Aug. 14 from 11 a.m. to noon in the Los Gatos Neighborhood Center, 208 E. Main Street, Room 11.

Sher will discuss education, high tech, the environment and other issues.

    But what's the surprise?

The senator's office says there will be a special update on the Bear Creek Redwoods acquisition. Sher's office says the senator is looking at paying off the $10 million acquisition by open space groups with state grants.

    Coffee with the mayor

It may be the dog days of summer, but that doesn't mean Monte Sereno Mayor Jack Lucas is slacking off.

He's going right ahead and holding his monthly Coffee with the Mayor meeting anyway, Aug. 13 at 9:30 a.m. in Monte Sereno City Hall.

    Updated Highway 17 news available

Drivers used to hopping the hill--and getting tied up in horrible traffic--now have a friend besides those warning signs on the approach to Los Gatos--TravInfo's Highway 17 hotline.

Winter storms did it again, messing up areas along Highway 17 and causing a big job for Caltrans to clean up. Because of those cleanup and repair jobs being performed regularly throughout the summer, and because of regular accidents, traffic is often reduced to one lane.

Commuters and beach-goers driving over the hill can now call 817-1717 for up-to-the-minute traffic information specifically for Highway 17.
