Chamber hears parking panel
The Town of Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce presents a panel discussion of the town's proposed parking plan over breakfast Aug. 27 at 8 a.m. at The Toll House, 140 S. Santa Cruz Ave.
If the Town Council adopts the plan, motorists will pay for parking in downtown lots, and the town will build a new parking structure with the money.
Anyone who attends can offer the panel his or her opinions about the plan and learn how the plan will affect Los Gatos businesses and residents.
Panelists include Town Manager Dave Knapp, Director of Building and Engineering Services Scott Baker, Parking Commissioner Kurt Lemons and Chamber of Commerce Chairwoman Robin Tole.
Cost for breakfast is $10. For reservation information, call 291-5281.
Work will improve dam, close trails
Construction is expected to begin before the end of this week on a project to raise the Lexington dam between one and four feet and to raise its spillway walls as much as six feet, so the 44-year-old structure can meet modern state standards.
The work will temporarily close the dam's maintenance roads to hikers and bikers, but later will provide a new 8-foot-wide, paved trail across the face of the dam.
Bear Creek overpass nears completion
By the end of the month, Caltrans expects the bridge over Highway 17 at Bear Creek Road to be opened in both directions.
Only minor work remains on the overpass.
Caltrans opened one lane July 18 to let cars cross over the highway and merge into northbound lanes; previously, northbound drivers were required to make dangerous left turns at Montevina Road.
With the overpass open, Highway 17 is no longer accessible from Montevina Road. Drivers must traverse a frontage road from Montevina to the Black Road overpass.
