Margaret Kearney

Los Gatan Margaret C. Kearney died July 16 at Our Lady of Fatima Villa, Saratoga, following a long illness. She was 77.

Kearney was born Dec. 31, 1918, in County Caven, Ireland, and trained as a registered nurse in Cornwall, England, during World War II. In 1949, she and her husband, James Kearney, immigrated to the United States.

For 20 years, Kearney worked as a nurse at Arden Hill Hospital in Goshen, N.Y. She moved to Los Gatos in 1986 to be closer to her children and grandchildren. An active parishioner at St. Mary's Church, Kearney was also active in the Community Hospital of Los Gatos Auxiliary, the Friendly Neighbors and the Happy Hoofers of the Los Gatos Senior Center.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Mairead Kearney-Donohue and Robert Donohue of Los Gatos; son and daughter-in-law Terry Kearney and Stella Koukoutsakis of Saratoga; grandchildren Allison, Michaela and Sheena Donohue of Los Gatos; Jimmy and Christina Kearney of Saratoga; brothers Tom Farrelly and Msgr. Terence Farrelly of Florida and sister Kathleen Walsh of Birmingham, England.

Memorial services have been held, with Msgr. Farrelly celebrating a Rosary and Requiem Mass at St. Mary's Church. Interment is at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Los Altos.

Chester Hancock

Former Los Gatos resident Chester B. Hancock died July 27 at his Oakdale home at the age of 70.

Born Feb. 27, 1926, in Munday, Texas, Hancock served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 46 and was a member of the American Legion. He lived in Los Gatos for 40 years and worked as a service manager at Cumming-Henderson Tire Service Center in Santa Clara for 37 years.

Hancock was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy. Survivors include wife Reba Hancock of Oakdale; daughters Janis Guzman of Campbell and Joan Nelson of Saratoga; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters Tilda Wallace of Santa Cruz and Pauline Teese of Oakdale; and brother Doug Hancock of Pico Rivera.

Memorial services have been held, with interment at Los Gatos Memorial Park.
