Los Gatos football team needs a new golf cart for Wedemeyer

    By Dick Sparrer

Charlie Wedemeyer continues to be a presence in the Los Gatos football program, despite his long struggle with Lou Gehrig's disease that now spans more than 20 years.

And even though he can no longer walk or speak, he can still communicate and he can still coach--and he does so each year from his familiar post in a golf cart on the sidelines at the Gatos frosh-soph football games.

Wedemeyer is not about ready to retire, but his golf cart is. The veteran coach needs a new cart for the coming season, and the football team is trying to raise the $2,500 needed to get him one.

The football program is looking to the community for financial support. Anyone wishing to contribute to the fund to purchase a new golf cart for Coach Wedemeyer can send a donation to Los Gatos Football, c/o Los Gatos High School, 20 High School Court, Los Gatos, CA 95032-6917.
