    The Prowler

Coincidentally enough, both of the Prowler's topics for this column have to do with the unusual duo of dogs and books! One of these the Prowler likes more than the other--readers can draw their own conclusions!

In conjunction with the release of Emmy-winning journalist and writer Lisa Mendoza's new book titled Hi! It's Me, Your Dog!, Borders Books, Music & Cafe in Los Gatos' Old Town is hosting a dog photo contest. Folks with heartwarming, unusual or goofy photos of their canine cohorts should write their name and address on the back and mail them to Borders, at 50 University Ave., Unit 280, Los Gatos, 95030, or just bring them by the store.

On Sept. 17, at 2 p.m., Mendoza will be on hand to sign copies of her book, subtitled "Let me take you for a walk through my world" and written from a dog's perspective--and will select the top three doggie pix. This cat isn't sure what the prizes might be, but it's sure to be an acutely cute afternoon no matter what!

Book and dog fans should also note Sept. 23 on their calendars, as that's the date when, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Humane Society of Santa Clara Valley's Education Department is holding Book Sale for the Animals, a big bash at the Great Mall of the Bay Area, located off Highway 880 in Milpitas.

The sale, which also includes used CDs and videos, is a fundraiser for a community resource library the HSSCV is organizing for use by students and anyone else interested in animals, their care and welfare, and other topics. For folks who already have too many books, the HSSCV could also use additional donations of books to make the sale as big as possible. Call 408.727.3383, ext. 880, for info!
