Former Mission Oaks nurse arrested on several counts
By Leigh Ann Maze
Richard Thorvald Lucero, 50, was arrested by members of the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department Aug. 25, on several counts of sexual battery and false imprisonment, which is the unlawful violation of the personal liberty of another.
Lucero is alleged to have inappropriately touched two patients and three co-workers, none of them Los Gatos residents, over a period of two years. At the time he was working as a nurse in the surgery department at Mission Oaks Hospital in San Jose near the Los Gatos border. The two patients were sedated and undergoing fertility procedures at the hospital when the incidents occurred.
Lucero was recently fired from his job after an internal investigation by the hospital resulted in allegations of sexual battery and false imprisonment against him.
LG-MSPD detective Cynthia Coahran began investigating the case on Aug. 3, after a managing staff member at Mission Oaks Hospital notified police.
Lucero was arrested at his San Jose home without incident and was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on a $500,000 arrest warrant. He has since posted bail and is out of custody. Reached at home, Lucero had no comment.
Lucero is being charged with three felony counts of sexual battery, one felony count of false imprisonment and two misdemeanor counts of sexual battery.
Anyone with information regarding this case can contact the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department Detective Bureau at 408.354.6825.
