    The Prowler

Today's column is such a hodgepodge that the Prowler will not attempt a witty segue but will instead just dive in feet first--we cats never land on our heads, you know!

Two Santa Cruz Mountain residents, Nancy Jo Lopp and Amy Konsterlie, are doing arty-crafty things this month. Lopp, a prolific photographer, is September's featured artist at Aegis Gallery, 14531 Big Basin Way in Saratoga. Her exhibit includes photographic portraits of flowers, fruit and lavender. The fragrant purple herb also appears in baskets and topiaries in the gallery--it's Lopp's favorite and one she and her husband grow by the field full. Call 408.867.0701 for gallery hours.

Painter Konsterlie will demonstrate her watercolor, pen and ink technique for architectural illustration at the Sept. 9 meeting of the Los Gatos Art Association, which begins at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 19 High School Court. Everyone is welcome.

Several children's programs are on tap this month at the Los Gatos Public Library, beginning with tales spun by storyteller Awele on Sept. 14, at 3:15 p.m. The Family Night event on Sept. 18, at 7 p.m. features Jay the Juggler, while Sept. 28 brings a program on how birds build nests, hosted by Trudi Burney of The Wildlife Center of Silicon Valley. For more info on these or other kid stuff at the library, call 408.354.6893.

Finally, The Role Model Program is looking for volunteers to present a fun, interactive curriculum, "Dare to Dream," at Santa Clara County middle schools this fall. Free training is provided. Call 408.246.0433, or visit www.therolemodelprogram.org for all the details!
