Vera Kingham
Vera C. Kingham of Los Gatos died on Aug. 14 of pneumonia at the age of 91.
Born on May 24, 1908, in Ulysses, Neb., Kingham came to California in 1912 for her mother's health, originally settling in Pasadena and then in Riverside. She later moved to Oregon, where she received her bachelor's degree in home economics from Oregon State University at Corvallis. After college, Kingham moved back to California and settled in Redlands, where she lived for 63 years. She came to Los Gatos about four years ago.
Kingham worked for the municipal power company in the Southern California town of Hemet , and later as a dietitian and cook at "Ma" Eickhorn's boarding house in Redlands. After her 1933 marriage, she and husband Elmer worked equal hours in their photography studio, the William Elmer Kingham Studio of Photography, which they ran for 45 years in Southern California. Among the couple's many projects were individual portraits and school class photos.
After their retirement, the Kinghams spent nine years with the Visual Productions Color Lab of San Diego, traveling up and down the state as they called on photographers. In 1987, the couple received the Eastman Kodak Lifetime Achievement Award.
Kingham was a member of the Professional Photographers Association of California, Soroptimist International, the Spinet Federated Music Club and the First Congregational Church of Redlands. She was also a longtime volunteer for Redlands Community Hospital.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Barton and Mildred Kingham of Monte Sereno; daughter and son-in-law Diana and William Pyle of Indian Harbour Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
