They didn't win by much--just a single goal.

But that single goal turned out to be just enough for the Los Gatos Metro boys' under-16 soccer team. It was enough to lift Metro to a championship in the San Ramon Invitational Tournament.

Los Gatos ran into the Almaden Blackmagic in the tourney title game, but it was Metro working a little magic behind the efforts of John Tannaci and Kelly Gray.

Tannaci and Gray each scored goals to lift Los Gatos to a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Blackmagic in the finals, clinching the title for the local boys.

Metro, coached by Dave Gold and Jeff Rhodes, outscored opponents 6-3 on the road to winning the championship. It was the first tournament of the year for the Los Gatos squad.

Members of the Los Gatos team include forwards Brett Dippert, Mitch Guerra and Gray; midfielders Chris Marki, Andy Marvin, Brian Rhodes, Jedd Martin, Bernard Ferrales, Michael Ottoboni and Tannaci; defenders David Ibarra, D.C. Cohen, Stephen Biondolillo and Chris Salvatore; and goalkeeper David Wills.
