Old Town wall battle finally over
After kicking around for the better part of the past year, the last of the post-construction design changes at Old Town were finally hashed out last week, when planning commissioners approved the outdoor seating for Steamer's new restaurant, across the street from the old one.
After the commission balked at approving the design at the last hearing because of an incomplete mock-up, Steamer's owner Paul Matulich and Federal Realty erected a full-scale mock-up of the 42-inch wall and planter boxes in the lobby outside the Town Council Chambers. Apparently, it did the trick.
Steamer's hopes to open for business in the new building by the end of the month.
Fresh faces on committees
Council members appointed another crop of town officials last week:
Appointed to the Arts Commission was Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Company owner Terri Hope, who has worked for the Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Association and the Business Improvement District.
Carolyn Klinger was appointed to Leslie Dill's position--which had expired--on the Historic Preservation committee.
Retired school administrator Richard Anderson was appointed to the Parking Commission.
Edward Matchak was appointed and Robert Delgado was re-appointed to the Personnel Board.
The town still has an empty seat on the Board of Appeals, and two student seats are up for grabs on both the Community Services Commission and the Parks Commission.
