Neale, Kreuzer shine
Casey Neale of Valley Christian and Josh Kreuzer of Leigh both shone this summer as members of the Northern California Baseball Club--and so did their medals.
Neale and Kreuzer were members of the NorCal squad that finished second in the AAU Junior Olympics at Jacob's Field in Cleveland and third at the USA Junior Olympic Baseball Championships in Tucson, Ariz.
NorCal won nine straight games at the Junior Olympics before losing a 2-0 heartbreaker to the East Cobb Georgia Astros in the finals. A year earlier, NorCal had beaten the Astros to win the title.
Neale, a Los Gatos resident, played in the outfield for the NorCal squad that took part in the 53-team tournament at the home of the Cleveland Indians.
Casey McGehee of Soquel and Nate Sutton of Bellarmine were other Central Coast Section players who joined Neale and Kreuzer on the squad.
NorCal had posted a 7-2 record to finish third in the USA Junior Olympic championships.
Silva's road trip
Andrew Silva, a student at St. Lucy's School in Campbell, was a baseball player who took a rather unique road trip this summer.
Silva had the opportunity to play for the Roberto Clemente All-Stars on a seven-day trip playing against the top amateur competition in Puerto Rico.
Silva, 12, was a member of a 14-player United States team that played five games in Puerto Rico. The U.S. posted a 2-3 record on the tour.
Along with competing on the diamond, the players toured Old San Juan and the 500-year-old El Morro Fort, and they participated in a series of seminars and goal-setting workshops.
