Real estate firm focuses on needs of aging population
Coldwell Banker recently hosted its first annual Retirement Living Benefit Faire--a seminar to educate the public on the various levels of retirement communities, tax and estate planning, and financial and legal information associated with retirement, and senior living.
More than 150 community members attended the complimentary three-hour event that included special guest tax attorney Francis La Poll of Palo Alto, who explained the legal details associated with selling a home and moving to a retirement community.
Additionally, the event included a Partner Faire complete with representatives from 20 various retirement communities throughout Northern California and Southern Oregon. Levels of care represented included Continuing Care, Life Care and Independent Living.
"Historically retirees either relocated to other areas of the country or moved to retirement communities," said Avram Goldman, Coldwell Banker president and COO. "However we have found that a growing number of our older clients are not relocating because they don't know their options and are unfamiliar with the legal and financial effects associated with moving residences.
"Additionally, it is no secret that the real estate market is extremely tight," he added. We are seeing very low inventory with unusually high demand, creating a skyrocketing cost of living. Our response to this demand is ongoing educational sessions like the Retirement Living Benefit Faire which educates our older clients and the general public to their retirement living options."
The Retirement Faire coincides with the recent announcement of the Coldwell Banker Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES) training that more than 150 Coldwell Banker sales associates have completed. The SRES certification marks a real estate associates' specialization in the legal, financial and personal issues that may affect the 55-plus population.
