CDs quiet cranky kids

Perpetual Cow Productions, a business partnership between Los Gatos High School alumna Pam Johann and friend Martha Stone, have recently released for crying out loud!, a compilation of unlikely sounds to calm fussy babies. Johann's son and Stone's daughter were born within weeks of each other; the new moms discovered by accident that sounds such as vacuum cleaners, washing machines and restaurant background noise soothed their irritable babies. Their CDs and cassettes, which contain eight different sounds, have since been picked up by more than a dozen retail stores (including Tassels in Los Gatos), two catalogs and three hospital facilities, including Good Samaritan.
