    Catherine Brock

Catherine M. "Cathy" Brock died in her Los Gatos home Aug. 29, following a long illness. She was 73.

Born in Fon du Lac, Wis., in 1926, Brock grew up in Waupun, Wis., where her father worked as a dentist. After graduating from Waupun High School, she studied at St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Chicago, from where she graduated in 1947. She also met her future husband Robert Brock in Chicago, where they married and started a family.

In 1953, the family moved to the Fort Ord area of California, since Robert was serving in the U.S. Army at the time. After finding California to their liking, the Brocks moved to Los Gatos two years later. It was here that their last two children were born. Brock became very active in her children's schools, with St. Mary's Church and with various hospital guilds.

"Although her volunteerism in the community was well-known, she will be remembered more for her ever-present spirit for life, her friendship to all around her and her unique ability to deliver the perfect pep talk, giving the warmest hug, lend a listening ear or supply a supporting shoulder to cry on, always with perfect timing," her family remembers of her.

Brock was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert Brock, in 1989. Survivors include daughters Mary Beth Sims, Connie Brock, Becky Griffiths and Judy Steinberg; sons Jerry and Dave Brock; and 14 grandchildren.

Memorial services have been held, with interment at Madronia Cemetery in Saratoga. Donations may be made to Mid-Peninsula Hospice, 201 San Antonio Circle, Suite 135, Mtn View, 94040.
