St. Luke's plans an organ recital, evensong service
St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 20 University Ave., invites the community to attend two back-to-back musical events next month.
On Nov. 3, at 8 p.m. David Buice of Atlanta, Ga., performs an organ recital as a benefit for the St. Luke's music program. Buice's selections include pieces by Marchand, Franck, Buxtehude, J.S. Bach, Widor and Dupre. Before settling in Atlanta in 1982, Buice headed the keyboard department at Brewton-Parker College in Mt. Vernon, Ga. He was also a founding member of the Southeastern Historical Keyboard Society and is proficient on the organ, piano, harpsichord and clavichord.
The monthly evensong service and concert begins at 4 p.m. on Nov. 5. Evensong is a musical rendition of the evening prayer service and includes singing of hymns, psalms, canticles and prayers. It can also include a short sermon, depending on the season and officiating priest. Following the service is the featured concert.
This month it features a variety of sacred jazz piano pieces played by the Rev. Dan Damon, a composer, pianist and minister from Point Richmond. He is also an instructor at the Pacific School of Religion.
Everyone is welcome. There is no charge for the concerts, but a freewill offering will be accepted. For more information,
