The Prowler
This week's column contains two previews of events that caught this cat's eye, as well as what would have been a "postview" if the Prowler had let it slip one more week.
The latter is the Los Gatos Art Association's Membership Show, up through the end of October, at the Los Gatos Museum of Art and Natural History, 4 Tait Ave. This extensive exhibit, juried by award-winning artist Claire Schroeven Verbiest, includes artwork in all mediums: oil, watercolor, acrylic, pencil, pastel and mixed media. Art prints, photography and sculpture are also in the show. Curator Catherine Politopoulos says the 2000 show is another example of how the quality of submissions increases each year.
Another event, that involves some of the same artists, is just around the corner: Walls to the Future, an installation by the Los Gatos Arts Commission's Art in the Council Chambers program. From Oct. 30 through Jan. 12, 2001, the chambers will be filled with interpretations of the new millennium by 35 artists from the LGAA. A reception with refreshments takes place Nov. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the council chambers, downstairs in the Civic Center at 110 E. Main St.
Although Los Gatan Bev Haring favors ursine creatures over felines, the Prowler will still mention the class she's holding on teddy bear construction Nov. 4, at the Rose Mille store in the Willow Glen area of San Jose. Anyone with basic experience with hand- and machine-sewing is welcome to come and learn about cutting, sewing and finishing techniques for making cuddly teddies. The class fee is $85; the bear kit fee is $42. For details, call Rose Mille at 408.280.7892, or Haring at 408.356.2257.
