The Prowler
What do printmaking, book-signing and wine-tasting have in common? Not a whole lot, save for the fact that all are compound modifiers. This week, however, they are also united by their appearance in the Prowler's column!
Folks interested in the printed arts will enjoy Marking Time/Making Space, a new exhibit at the Los Gatos Museum of Art and Natural History, at 4 Tait Ave. Up through Dec. 29, it comprises mixed-media monotypes that explore the themes and genres of painting, drawing, computer-generated art, 3-D art and bookbinding. The works of many local arts and members of the Silicon Valley Printmakers are on display. Museum hours are Wednesday through Sunday, noon to 4 p.m.
Does the name Hershey Frymer ring a bell? Perhaps the father of the late literary feline is better-known: Murray Frymer, former award-winning columnist for the San Jose Mercury News. The Prowler admired the late Hershey even more, as it's quite a feat being a cat who writes for human readers. At any rate, Murray is coming to Borders Books, Music & Cafe in Old Town on Nov. 18, at 1 p.m. to visit with the public and sign copies of his new book, They're Coming for my Mattress (and Other Tales of Life).
Although this last event doesn't take place at the Mirassou wine cellars here in Los Gatos, the Prowler wants to make a quick mention of the annual Holiday Winetasting at the historic Mirassou Winery at 3000 Aborn Road in San Jose. Once again, the theme is "A Charles Dickens Christmas" and includes wine-tasting, hot mulled cider, kids' face painting, live entertainment and Santa photos. Call 408.274.4000.
