Town sends appeal back to commission

The Los Gatos Town Council granted in part an appeal by Roberts Road property owners to subdivide a parcel into four lots and construct four freestanding town homes.

The council, acknowledging that the planning commission was under pressure to make a timely decision because of state subdivision law, agreed with the direction the commission had taken. However, since a project remanded by the council to the commission does not face the same time constraints, council members voted to keep the project alive by sending it back to the commission.

The four-home development had the unanimous support of neighbors, who said they approved of the density, layout and look of the project. Council members and commissioners have asked the applicant to place units closer together to create more open space.

    LG-SJUHSD gives nod to candidates

On Nov. 7 the Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously to appoint incumbent board members Jackie Schmidt-Posner and Lorrie Wernick to new terms.

No election occurred because both ran unopposed. According to California Elections Code Section 10515(a) and California Education Code Sections 5326 and 5328, district governing boards may appoint a member when only one person has declared candidacy for an elective office.

Both Schmidt-Posner and Wernick were elected on Nov. 5, 1996, to serve four-year terms.
