The Prowler
Since honesty is the best policy, the Prowler admits this first item is self-serving--it's about animals and our welfare! Then again, that shouldn't surprise many of this cat's regular readers.
The Humane Society of Santa Clara Valley is holding a very creative and entertaining fundraiser on Dec. 7. It's called Movie Benefit for the Animals, and it takes place at the Century 20 theater in the Great Mall of the Bay Area in Milpitas. The event starts at 6:30 p.m., with grand opening festivities for the theater and appetizers by local businesses. Those attending also get to see the premiere of a first-run holiday movie at 8 p.m., with free popcorn and soda. Tickets are $20 a piece, or two for $35. After Dec. 1, tickets are $25 each. Proceeds benefit the nonprofit HSSCV. To order tickets, call 408.727.3383, ext. 854.
That being said, the Prowler will stick with events closer to home. Tercera Gallery is definitely that, at 24 N. Santa Cruz Ave. It is also the site of a new installation of studio furniture crafted by Michael Cullen, Ken Edwards and Yuko Shimizu. There's also new works on paper by Kazuko Watanabe and Turaj. The public is invited to an artists' reception on Nov. 18, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. The exhibit runs through Dec. 9.
Another cool exhibit down the road from us is Holiday Show 2000, a group show at Gallery Saratoga, 14531 Big Basin Way. Some of the member artists are Los Gatans, but even if they weren't, the Prowler would still recommend this show--it's a great way to get some classy gifts, including paintings, photography, jewelry, pottery, silk scarves, greeting cards and ornaments. Call 408.867.0458 for gallery hours.
