Colleen Wilcox earns honor
Dr. Colleen B. Wilcox, a Los Gatos resident as well as superintendent of the Santa Clara County Office of Education, added another feather to her cap this month, when the Association of California School Administrators presented her with the California Superintendent of the Year Award during its annual conference.
As superintendent, Wilcox heads an office with a $160 million budget and more than 1,400 employees. Her many accomplishments during her five years in this position include tripling the number of professional seminars available to teachers, building partnerships between K-12 schools and local universities and businesses, and establishing the Grant Resource Center, which helps schools increase their revenues and improve the quality of their grant proposals.
Wilcox has spent more than 27 years working in the education field in various capacities, such as teacher, speech and language pathologist and administrator.
Prior to her appointment five years ago as superintendent in this county, she served as a superintendent in the Chicago area. She also was an educational administrator in Tucson, Ariz., and Los Angeles. The award was presented at the organization's national conference Nov. 11-13 in Anaheim.
