Local students named National Merit scholars
Thirty-one members of Los Gatos High School's class of 2000 have earned high honors in this year's National Merit Scholarship competition. Several students have been selected as Merit semifinalists on the basis of their PSAT scores and have the opportunity to compete for Merit scholarships worth up to $10,000 per year. Semi-finalists include Katherine Bui, Jesse Clark, Rebecca Dodson, Rebecca Fong, Sangeeta Rana, Alex Toy and Ailinh Tran.
National Merit commended students, seniors who placed among the top 5 percent on the PSAT test, include Taran Barca-Hall, Kevin Carney, Anastasia Chang, Ted Chang, Timothy Chen, Chris Choi, Michael Clark, Mika Clark, Sara Clark, Steven Falkenhagen, Annmarie Farnady, Ross Halper, Stone Hsu, Grace Kay, Leif Linden, Tim Odell, Jacob Perkins, Philip Roan, Seamus Ryan, Christine Schildt, Adam Siegel, Robin Swab, Mark Vyhnal and Alexander White.
Los Gatos residents Richard Choi and Timothy Gunatilaka are Bellarmine College Prepatory seniors also named as Merit semifinalists.
Meet the chancellor at West Valley College
West Valley College holds a community reception for new Chancellor Linda Salter on Nov. 16 from 3 to 6 p.m. The free event takes place at the college's campus center.
The public is welcome to meet the chancellor and enjoy refreshments.
