Los Gatos Art Association announces show winners

Many local artists won awards in the Los Gatos Art Association's 1999 juried membership show, which ran through October at the Los Gatos Museum of Fine Art and Natural History. The show was judged by Ruth Tunstall Grant, an oil painter, print- and doll-maker and art instructor who has exhibited at the museum herself.

In the oil-painting category, the winners were Carol Glynn of Los Gatos, first; Shannon Grissom of San Jose, second; Maralyn Miller of Los Gatos, third; and honorable mentions Joyce Leyland of Saratoga, Irene Stafford of Los Gatos and Steve Wise of San Jose.

Watercolor winners were Ed Lucy of Los Gatos, first; Linda Spencer of Los Gatos, second; Ciane Bair of San Jose, third; and Mavis Fisher of San Jose, Liv Hansen of Los Gatos and Rita Wilson of Monte Sereno, all honorable mentions. Winning pastellists were Moira McFadden of Los Gatos, first; and Helen Scheel of Saratoga, honorable mention.

Earning awards for their mixed-media work were Ruth Farrell of San Jose, first; and Rose Lee of San Jose, honorable mention. Winners in the sculpture category were Jerry Hertz of Campbell, first; Marilyn Pitman-Waite of San Jose, second; and Saratogans Michiko Shimoda and Rosalind Allen, both honorable mentions. In the photography category, Helen Riley of Saratoga took first place, and Jade Bradbury of Los Gatos earned honorable mention.

The Los Gatos Art Association is made up of nearly 200 artists working in a wide variety of media, including painting, drawing, mixed-media, sculpture, photography and printmaking. Its purpose is to help artists grow professionally, locate opportunities to exhibit and sell their works and develop contacts in the art world.
