    The Prowler

Three of the Prowler's favorite things--animals, kids and food--are the order of the day for this week. And just for the record, lest any readers fear a predatory cat, the Prowler actually consumes only the last item on this list!

Not letting recent cold, rainy weather dampen its spirits, the nonprofit Youth Science Institute is offering two classes at its Vasona Park Nature Center perfect for the upcoming wet and sometimes messy season. Turtles & Toads offers kids an up-close-and-personal introduction to their reptilian and amphibian neighbors from Nov. 29 through Dec. 2.

Goop & Glop is a workshop of hands-on learning about solids, liquids and gasses. Old clothes are a good idea for this class, which runs thru Dec. 9. Session days and times vary, depending on participants' age groups. Classes are open to kids from pre-kindergarten through third grade. Call 408.356.4945 to sign up before all the spaces fill up!

The Wild Bird Center in the Kings Court Shopping Center also offers young people and animals a chance to meet and greet each other. On Dec. 1 and 3, the shop's staff leads children ages 6 and older in constructing whimsical "gingerseed houses" to feed hungry birds this winter. All supplies are included for making these edible avian abodes. Fee is $18 per child. Last year's classes filled quickly, so call 408.358.WILD to reserve a spot.

Finally, hungry humans should take note that the last of the Bistro Supper Trio at Mirassou Champagne Cellars in Los Gatos takes place Dec. 12. And yes, reservations are a must. Meal cost of $60 includes appetizer, soup, entree, dessert, a flute of Mirassou sparkling wine, tax and tip. 408.395.3790 is the number to call.
