The Prowler

It seems November is a month that gets the proverbial short shrift. Although it contains Election Day, Veterans' Day and Thanksgiving--three observances no American should take for granted--November is often eclipsed by neighboring December and all its hoopla and anticipation. The Prowler has already caught strains of holiday music in a department store, believe it or not!

That being said, this cat will step off the soapbox and share some cool events that are helping November go out with a bang! On Nov. 19, the Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Company holds its 17th annual pre-holiday open house from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. The event includes free tastes of desserts, cookies and cakes, not to mention complimentary coffee drinks. There's even a live band and a drawing for a $500 espresso machine.

Speaking of treats, the Borders Books, Music & Cafe now open in Old Town invites the community to come shopping from Nov. 20 to 22 during Borders Benefit Days. During this period, Borders will donate 15 percent of all purchases to Los Gatos' own A Place for Teens, a.k.a. The Outhouse. Be sure to pick up a benefit slip at the store so A Place for Teens will be credited!

Speaking of good causes, Via Rehabilitation Services, in partnership with the Santa Clara County Firefighters Local 1165, is putting up its 16th annual Christmas tree lot on Nov. 27 at the corner of Lark Avenue and Winchester Boulevard. The lot, which runs through Dec. 18, offers Noble, Grand and Douglas firs as well as wreaths and garlands. Proceeds benefit Via programs that help children and adults with disabilities achieve greater self-sufficiency.
