Tree lighting starts the holiday season
Los Gatos' annual Holiday Tree Lighting, a precursor to the downtown Holiday Parade, is scheduled to take place Dec. 3 in the Town Plaza.
The festivities, which begin at 4 p.m., will feature musical performances from the Los Gatos High School Band and Kangaroddy and Friends. Audience members are encouraged to sing along.
Tree lighting will commence sometime around 5:45 p.m., at which time Santa Claus is due to arrive in the plaza for a brief photo opportunity.
Mayor Jan Hutchins will introduce the four Youth Citizens of the Year, chosen for their combined school and community service achievements. The youths serve as the whistleblowers for the annual parade, which will begin at 11 a.m. on Dec. 4 at N. Santa Cruz and Almendra avenues, then travel down Main Street en route to the high school.
County assessor brings out an annual report
Taxpayers interested in calculating their share of the county's property-tax revenues can review the first report from County Assessor Larry Stone.
The annual report contains a general overview of property assessment operations, a plethora of statistics on land and property taxes, and a glossary to help the layperson figure out things such as the difference between "secured" and "unsecured" properties.
The report can be viewed at the Los Gatos Public Library, or can be obtained by visiting the Assessor's Office at 70 W. Hedding St. in San Jose. Call 408.299.4347 for more information.
