    The Prowler

Being that the Prowler is a proud Los Gatan, this cat usually stays within the town limits when it comes to this column. However, even the most loyal felines stray from their haunts sometimes, and this week the Prowler has, too--but only to neighboring Saratoga.

This cat discovered three interesting art exhibits in that city down Highway 9, two of which happen to feature Los Gatans. At Gallery Saratoga, member artists have again pooled their talents into an annual Christmas show. Christmas Treasures offers lots of ideas for gift-giving or decorating, namely paintings, photography, jewelry, pottery, silk scarves, greeting cards and ornaments. The co-op gallery's two dozen artists include a number of Los Gatans.

The same is true for co-op Aegis Gallery and its annual endeavor titled simply Holiday Show. The works of its 26 member artists offer ceramics, paper, photography, jewelry, paintings in various mediums, sculptures, greeting cards and fragrant homegrown lavender baskets. Several of this gallery's members also hail from Cat Town. Both galleries share 14531 Big Basin Way. For show hours, call 408.867.0458 for Gallery Saratoga or 408.867.0171 for Aegis.

Finally, don't miss the current exhibit at the Villa Montalvo Gallery, 15400 Montalvo Road, which offers a look at original art by three Bay Area children's book illustrators for their latest books, which are also included in the exhibit. Ashley Wolff, Bob Barner and Laura Regan have such distinct styles that the only thread tying them together is the skillful way they blend the elements of art into colorful, lively images sure to engage kids and adults alike!
