A new resource handbook for seniors made available

The 16th edition of the Senior Handbook, a publication of Information & Referral Services Inc., is available at senior centers and other venues that assist or serve seniors throughout Santa Clara County.

Senior Handbook 2000 is available free in Los Gatos through the Los Gatos Senior Program at the Los Gatos Neighborhood Center, 208 E. Main St.; at the Live Oak Senior Nutrition and Service Center, 19 High School Court; and through the Jewish Community Center's senior nutrition program, 14855 Oka Road.

The handbook targets senior citizens who need various levels of assistance and their adult children who must now care for them or find others to provide care. As calls from caregivers and adult children have grown, the Senior Handbook has kept up. For ease of reference, the table of contents is organized into nearly two dozen sections, each divided into subheadings that give additional information.

The main sections encompass the following topics: food and nutrition, health and wellness, home care and nursing, mental health services, substance abuse, housing, transportation, emergency services, consumer action, death-related issues, employment, family support, financial, insurance, legal, tenant/landlord, recreation, senior centers and nutrition sites, volunteer programs, education, and civic and community resources.

The book also contains an advertiser index, an agency index and a list of websites that deal with senior-related issues.

The Senior Handbook is free at the I&RS office at 1275 S. Winchester Blvd., Suite A, in San Jose. For information, call 408.345.4532, or check the Web at www.iandrinfo.org.
